Embracing Enchantment: Sarah Beth Durst's The Spellshop

A few months ago, I stumbled upon the cover of Sarah Beth Durst’s newest book, The Spellshop, set to be released in July 2024. The cover art instantly captivated me; it felt like love at first sight and without knowing anything more than the book's title, I knew I had to buy it.

As the Director of a community college, my reading time is often consumed by non-fiction, with a towering pile of fiction books and stories waiting for their turn to be read. But something about The Spellshop called to me, stirring a sense of wonder and excitement that I hadn't felt in a long time. It felt like a promise of magic--a touch of the enchanted life I often talk about.

This excitement was amplified when Sarah shared a joyful post on social media, eagerly anticipating her book's release. Her excitement was contagious, and I felt compelled to support her. Plus, every time I glimpsed the cover, a warm, wonderful feeling bubbled up inside me. It turns out I wasn’t alone—The Spellshop has become an instant New York Times, USA Today, and Indie bestseller!

The physical book is as stunning as I imagined, with lavender-colored sprayed edges that add a touch of whimsy. I'm currently on chapter 12, and I can already tell you that this book is exactly what I needed. The story revolves around books, magic, and an endearing best friend who just so happens to be a spider plant. The narrative is as comforting as a warm cinnamon roll and is swirling with just as much magic.

As I read, I feel transported to a world where enchantment is real and tangible. It reminds me that even in our everyday lives, there’s always room for magic. The Spellshop is a must-read for anyone looking to add a sprinkle of wonder to their life. Whether you're a fan of fantasy or someone who could use a touch of the extraordinary, this book is sure to charm you.

So, if you find yourself yearning for a bit more magic in your life, pick up The Spellshop. Read it while eating a warm cinnamon bun and sipping a cup of tea.  It's a fabulous escape and a gentle reminder that wonder is always within reach, even if it's just a book away.
